The problem with archiving artists' archives is the lack of sufficient manpower. Decisions to archive, made by curators and committees, the selection, inventory and cataloging is an intensive process. Also, the copyright issue is an additional time-consuming process needed for publication.
DynamischArchief.nl solves this problem by offering the tool to the maker / artist himself to perform data entry. It saves time and costs and gives curators easier and quicker access to make choices for archiving on a higher plan. A process contrary to the present required storage visits. Sorting of the contents of boxes, photos and folders are skipped through this process.
DynamischArchief.nl is a platform that offers both the maker / artist and the curator the opportunity to disseminate the archives content in the most efficient way.
Its policy is to provide a most economic tool to its users. Data entry, review and use requires the most time and therefore entails costs that can be avoided.
Validity and academic reliability depend on the quality and representativeness of the data. Is the source the most reliable if the source is the maker?
A performance as a collective production has multiple sources. The collected resources are then subjected to the evaluation of others working in the same field. (Peer review)
The evaluation of all these sources - for example by a curator - makes the validity greater, or at least more interesting.
DynamischArchief.nl offers the possibility of merged sources.
History and development
Since the establishment in January 2000 and the development of the original collection management system (MuseumD-System), the general policy was to make the users of the intended system the key of the decision-making and building process.
MuseumD-System played the role of the architect, the users were museum professionals that provided the Terms of References on which the system was built.
In return, the museum professionals involved were given access to the system and used it for their activities.
Since January 2018 ArchiveTech.net is responsible for all applications. The key blueprint serves as fundament of the present platform DynamischArchief.nl.
Since 2000, representatives from the following entities have been involved in the making:
Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN), International Council of Museums (ICOM), South African Resource Agency (SAHRA), African Council of Museums, Museums Association Namibia (MAN), UNESCO Maputo, The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, the Russian Museum Association (RMA) and Instituto Latinamericano de Museos.
